  1. Hello 4H,

One of my most enjoyable hobbies is hiking through the nature reserve or one of the national parks around my town. Being out in the open can lead to some amazing discoveries if we keep our eyes and ears wide open. For me, it’s sometimes coming across kangaroos, wallabies, echidna, goannas, lyrebirds and wombats. I know you wouldn’t see these animals but I suspect you found interesting things in your school woodland.

Sharing stories in the open reminds me of my time in Scouts. We would sit around the campfire and tell ghost stories in the hope we could scare each other. I wonder if any of you have done this?

Games in the open? As Scouts we often played what we called wide games where we were out in the open air. They were fun. One favourite was Capture the Flag where two teams would be at play, one defending the flag the flag and the other trying to steal it. If one of the flag thieves was tagged by a defender, they had to stand still unless released by one of their team tagging them. The flag team would win if the tagged all the flag thieves. Snatching the flag was a win for the flag thieves.

Have fun in the outdoors. 🙂
